I'm going to create and exhibit a large scale interactive instrument made from voices and faces of folks from across LA. It will be a massive, playable, musical installation that celebrates human diversity as public participatory art. At it's simplest, it's a piano that controls an audio visual Human Piano projected around the player. Each key triggers a video of a different person from a different walk of life singing the corresponding musical note. The result is an awe inspiring new media choir that lets an audience literally play a vibrant cross section of humanity. I've created small versions of On a Human Scale for New York City and Guadalajara, Mexico. But what better place than Los Angeles to push this concept to the next level. LA is diverse in every beautiful sense of the word, and music is such an integral part to daily life and culture. In LA and at GOOD the project will reach new heights and open a whole new community to the symphony of humanity that surrounds us.
The GOOD office has countless resources that would be invaluable in helping bring LA On a Human Scale into glorious existence; here's a couple: GOOD is filled with folks with the gumption to make magic on a world changing scale. GOOD has crucial knowledge of L.A. and its people. GOOD has the moral compass to push the project in the right direction. GOOD has a sharp creative POV to bounce off of. GOOD has good taste. GOOD has expertise across a ton of creative and social disciplines. GOOD has connections to venues that would be perfect for a publicly participatory art piece. GOOD thinks cross culturally. GOOD has world class communication and PR skills. GOOD has fresh coffee, comfy chairs, good wifi, and a wide eyed unavoidably infectious inclination to push the world forward. GOOD and me got a lot in common.
